Joey Wahler is an ABC News Radio sports anchor in New York City since 2017. He writes and delivers hourly national sportscasts, and files reports on major breaking sports stories for the network’s newscasts. The Brooklyn native is has been the play-by-play voice of Wagner College men’s basketball on NEC Front Row since 2011.
Prior to joining ABC, Wahler was a sports anchor at WFAN for 17 years, often heard on the “Mike & the Mad Dog” and “Mike’s On” programs, hosted by Chris Russo and Mike Francesa. Wahler has anchored news and sports on 1010 WINS. He is a nine-time New York Emmy Award nominee for sports anchoring and reporting for his work at News 12 New Jersey and Madison Square Garden Network. Covering news at News 12 Connecticut, he once reported live from murder and fire scenes during the same newscast. Wahler has called college basketball nationally for Westwood One Sports, including the NCAA Tournament, like Butler’s 2007 first round upset of Maryland, culminating with his memorable cry, “The twerps have beaten the Terps!” While attending Seton Hall University, he won MSG Network’s College Play-by-Play Competition, awarded by calling a Knicks game on WFAN with analyst Walt Frazier.
Wahler lives in New Jersey with his wife and daughter.
