Start Here Weekend

ABC Audio is expanding our award-winning daily news podcast, Start Here, by making a weekend edition available to radio affiliates.

Host Brad Mielke dives deeper into the stories driving headlines through in-depth conversations with ABC News correspondents, experts, and newsmakers. Brad’s genuine curiosity and his accessible, engaging style have earned him a loyal fanbase, and now your listeners will have the chance to expand their understanding of the week’s news with Start Here Weekend.

The hour-long program will be available on ABC Newscall by 3:00PM ET on Fridays and will be fed out via XDS transmission at 3:06PM ET. The show is designed to run throughout the weekend at your discretion.

Please Note: Starting the week of March 3, Start Here Weekend will replace Perspective as ABC New Radio’s weekend longform offering. The two shows follow the same clock (below). Start Here Weekend will feed out a second time at 5:06PM ET for stations currently programmed to receive Perspective at that time.

    ABOUT BRAD MIELKE

Brad is an award-winning ABC News correspondent based in New York and hosts ABC’s daily news podcast “Start Here,” which takes a straightforward look at the day’s top news in 20 minutes.

He has interviewed some of the country’s biggest newsmakers including President Donald Trump, Vice President Kamala Harris, Pete Buttigieg, Alejandro Mayorkas, Steve Mnuchin, Marco Rubio, Alexandria Ocasio Cortez, James Comey, Bill Gates, Dr. Anthony Fauci and more.

Since its launch in March 2018, “Start Here” has covered the world’s biggest events, and taken in-depth looks at how they shape American lives, earning Edward R. Murrow Awards for Innovation, Excellence in Sound, and Continuing Coverage. The show has won a Webby Award for Best News & Politics Podcast, as well as the first National Press Club Award at the New York Festivals Radio Awards for its coverage of the Supreme Court’s Dobbs decision.

During the 2016 election, Brad served as a Campaign Digital Journalist, where he traveled the country interviewing candidates and voters. Since then, he has remained on the front lines of ABC’s political coverage, hosting several politics shows on ABC Radio and covering political stories across the country.

In 2015, Brad won an Edward R. Murrow award for his inventive, sound-rich documentary on extreme obstacle course racing – suffering a lot of aches and pains in the process.

Prior to his time at ABC News, Mielke worked at New York Public Radio, where he helped produce The Takeaway. A native of San Juan Capistrano, California, he graduated with a journalism degree from New York University. He lives with his wife in Brooklyn.
