T.J. Holmes

T.J. Holmes is the co-anchor of ABC News’ “GMA3: What You Need to Know,” a daytime program bringing viewers the latest news, information and human interest stories each day. Holmes also reports for “Good Morning America” and across ABC News platforms.

Since joining ABC News in 2014, Holmes has interviewed countless newsmakers and has covered a wide range of stories including the impact of COVID on professional sports, the death of Chadwick Boseman and the police shooting of Daniel Prude. Holmes spoke exclusively with Jeopardy host Alex Trebek following his diagnosis of pancreatic cancer and has had high profile interviews with attorney Ben Crump, actors Liam Neeson, Kate Walsh, and Lakeith Stanfield, as well as, athletes including former quarterback Johnny Manziel, former NBA star Dwayne Wade and NBA pro Steph Curry. Holmes also hosts the “Tell T.J.” series for “GMA” which spotlights viewers who go above and beyond in their communities.

His work for ABC News has taken him all over the U.S. and abroad including Super Bowls in Houston, Minneapolis, Miami, and Atlanta; South Africa for GMA’s live safari adventure, Philadelphia, PA and Cleveland, OH to cover the 2016 Democratic and Republican National Conventions, and Rio for the 2016 Summer Olympics where he spoke one-on-one with the most decorated Olympian of all time, Michael Phelps.

Prior to joining ABC News, Holmes was a contributing anchor for MSNBC from 2013-2014 and covered the George Zimmerman trial on CNN’s Headline News. He also hosted the BET Network show “DON’T SLEEP!” in 2012 and worked at CNN from 2006-2011 as a news anchor and correspondent. While at CNN, he hosted CNN Saturday & Sunday Morning and covered major breaking news including reporting on the scene from the devastating Joplin, Missouri tornadoes, the Deepwater Horizon oil spill in New Orleans, and the tragic shootings on the Virginia Tech campus. Holmes also anchored from Ground Zero to commemorate the 10th Anniversary of the September 11 attacks.

Holmes has also worked as an evening news anchor for KNTV in San Francisco, CA, and KTHV in Arkansas as a general assignment reporter and weekend anchor.

Holmes is a graduate from the University of Arkansas and currently serves as a member of the Chancellor’s Board of Advisors at the university. Holmes is longtime member of the 100 Black Men of Atlanta and the National Association of Black Journalist.  He was selected to the 2020 Ebony Power 100, a list of the most influential individuals in the African-American community.
